Episode Transcript:

Anthony: [00:00:00] What’s going on everybody? I just wanted to let you know real quick that the Hyper-focused Masterclass is officially live. We put a ton of time and energy into this project, and based on all the positive feedback so far that we’ve received from students, it’s, it’s, it’s pretty awesome. Seriously, we’re, we’re really psyched on how it all turned out.

Anthony: If you’re interested in learning all the habits, rituals, routine systems, process, these frameworks and more that, you know, helped me turn my ADHD into a super. To get out of massive debt and build a 70 million real estate portfolio over the past 10 years, and you’re definitely going to want to head over to beyond the apex.com/hyperfocus and check it out.

Anthony: All right, let’s get to the show. Welcome to Amplified Impact. This is the podcast where we talk about how to build better businesses, invest in real estate, and how to hyper focus on the things that matter most so that we can maximize our return on life. I’m your host, Anthony Sino, and I’ve written a few bestselling.

Anthony: Built a few seven and eight figure businesses and currently manage a 70 million real estate portfolio. But the thing I’m most proud of is that I managed to turn my ADHD [00:01:00] into a superpower. This podcast is all about the stories, lessons, and strategies I wish I had learned sooner in the pursuit of living a life beyond the apex.

Anthony: I’m psyched to have you here now. Let’s go make some amplified. And welcome back to the podcast guys and gals. It’s a pleasure to have you here. I want to talk about one of the wildest dudes I’ve come across in recent times. He is doing something so bazar and fantastic at the same time that it’s the type of thing that you, you watch and you’re like, you just can’t turn away.

Anthony: So the guy’s name is Brian Johnson. He’s, oh God, he’s about a, he, he, I think he built a Braintree, which is a company that sold to PayPal for like 800 million. This guy’s probably net worth 300, half a mil, half, half a Billy, something like that. Maybe even more. I’m probably selling that way, way short.

Anthony: Who knows? But, he’s doing pretty well for himself. What Brian is doing is something called the Blueprint Project. [00:02:00] He’s trying to figure out how to reverse aging effectively, right? Like you have your biological age and you have your chronological age. Chronological is just like what year you were born, how many years you’ve been on the planet, but your biological age is more, you know, like your cellular age, your organ age, and, and it’s going to be different.

Anthony: Like you have hundreds of hundreds, hundreds of different markers inside your body. Like your livers one age, your hearts are different, your brains are different, whatever. And what, what he’s trying to figure out is like how he can live his life in a way. To reverse his epigenetic age and he’s succeeded in the last seven months or something like the last five months in reducing his epigenic age by seven years.

Anthony: So I think he’s like 45, which means like his biological age is like 37, 38, which is crazy that he’s like reverse aging, right? Effectively there’s a lot of wild, wild in craziness around this and. I am not going to go too deep into that [00:03:00] aspect of it because, I, I don’t know if I fully agree with it, but I think it’s really.

Anthony: But he’s shared some things that I think are super, he shared one concept in particular that we can all apply right now in our lives to move towards our best self. I guarantee it. And it’s, it’s super, super simple. Super. Well, maybe not simple. No, it is simple, but it’s not easy. And it’s something that I actually did a couple months ago, but I didn’t have the words to articulate what exactly I was doing and to share a little bit of my journey.

Anthony: So back in October, I weighed about 185 pounds. I was doing jiu-jitsu six days a week for two hours a day. I was in really, I was in good shape. Like generally speaking, I would say when I was a professional rock climber, I was weighing at like 1 68. That was where I found like my peak strength to weight ratio and I had a body fat rating, reading at that point of around 7%.

Anthony: Okay. So just a little bit of context, like I’m five ten, a hundred sixty eight pounds, that’s me shredded 185 pounds is [00:04:00] me fluffy. So in. I decided, well, at the beginning of this year, I made a project for myself, which I called Operation Hard to Kill . And so Operation Hard to Kill was like looking at all the different ways that life could kill me and then trying to shore up those weaknesses.

Anthony: So one of those was like, oh, I need to be better at a hand-to-hand combat in case I ever find myself in a scrap. And, and for context, like I’m pretty good in a fight because I spent the first 25 years training martial arts. I fought mma, like I’m pretty good from a striking standpoint, but I had a glaring weakness in my game, which was the ground and grappling.

Anthony: So I started learning Brazilian jiujitsu and more specifically, like you don’t realize how. I would’ve shaped you really, really are until you’re put into like a life and death fighting situation. And when you’re fighting, when you’re grappling with somebody else who has like ill intent towards you, you realize very quickly, holy crap, there’s different levels to this fitness game.

Anthony: And so I started doing that at the beginning of the year. I got my blue belt, which is pretty dope. I was pretty excited about that. [00:05:00] So that was one aspect. And then I started playing with guns and knives and like getting better at like Cali, which is a, a form of knife play, or knife defense. And then gun play.

Anthony: Just wanting to be more like John Wick or James Bond, whatever. I, I wanted to understand how a gun works and, and be competent enough with it because, I’m not one of those prepper types that I think the world’s going to end, or like the government’s going to come and try and take my land or anything. I need to be prepared.

Anthony: But I do think there’s a world where it makes sense to be proficient with a firearm. So I’ve been practicing on that too. One of the things that I was really obviously missing, it was my nutrition and my fitness. Like my fitness was good, but it wasn’t great and my nutrition was a trash. I was a dumpster fire and it’s always been an issue for me.

Anthony: Like eating well has always been a struggle. I do not like cooking. I do not have the willpower. I do not want to have the willpower to eat well and like, and hold myself accountable. I wanted to make it stupid easy, and so I hired a guy, Dar Phil Dar. to [00:06:00] effectively make my food a nutrition plan, my workout plan, tell me what to do, when to do it, what to eat, when to eat, all that stuff.

Anthony: In conjunction with my, with my life partner, Jamie, who’s a nutrition, like she has a nutrition certification and a physical therapist.  Not a physical therapist, a personal trainer, and just all around badass. And truly, like none of what I’m going to share with you would’ve is even remotely possible if I do not have the best partner in the world.

Anthony: So take that with a grain of salt, because like you don’t have Jamie, and so you’re, you might be screwed. N no. Hopefully you have good partner. Maybe you, you, but I, I think there’s ways that you can introduce what I’m going to share with you. But anyways, so a couple months ago, back in October, right now, it’s no.

Anthony: Maybe it was September that we started, like mid-September, late September, started getting really serious about what I eat and specifically I wanted to like bulk up. I wanted to add a little bit of muscle. what ended up happening though, over the last seven weeks is I’ve lost 15 pounds. So I’ve dropped from 180 5 to this morning.

Anthony: I weighed at 1 68 and I’ve been [00:07:00] at 1 68 for the last two, two and a half weeks, which is again like me at my most shredded. which is pretty cool. A lot of people are like, oh, you look like you’ve lost a ton of weight. What’s happened? but I share all that with you guys to link it back to what Brian Johnson said, who he said as you’re looking at, like, trying to optimize and get to this place of like, living better or like being harder to kill.

Anthony: That’s my words. it can be really overwhelming. It can be really scary, like really overwhelming to know like where to start. There’s so many different variables. And he said like, instead of trying to do everything at once, really what your goal, what your first step needs to be is to just simply fire.

Anthony: Your worst self. And I really like this idea that we all like inside of us, we all contain multitudes of personalities. And, and like Anthony late at night is different than Anthony early in the morning. Right? And Anthony during the day when he is at work is different than Anthony when he is at jujitsu working out, right?

Anthony: So like you have different. You’re just at [00:08:00] different energy levels. You have different willpowers disciplines, like things that you want to do early in the morning. I’m motivated. I’m psyched to go win the day. I’m going to go work out, I’m going to go crush late at night. Anthony is more prone to go get in the cover, in eat things that Anthony shouldn’t eat.

Anthony: And so Brian’s Brian said, you know, to, to become like this best version of yourself, which we talk a lot about on this podcast, is like this pursuit of who is our best self. You start by just firing your worst self and saying, we’re done with you late night, Anthony. You no longer have power here. You no longer have control here.

Anthony: You don’t get to make a decision. And I think there’s a ton of power in that. I, I love that idea of identifying as though it’s a third person external from you and saying that version of Anthony is no longer welcome here. And so I wanted to share that framework that, that, that simple. Task of firing your worst self. self improvement

Anthony: And I think step one is figuring out, well, who is your worst self? You know, maybe that’s not good for you. Maybe [00:09:00] that’s exercise. Maybe that’s work. Maybe that’s focus. Maybe that’s who you are. When you’re in your, your present with your loved ones. Maybe that’s your pre, your predilection to be angry or to get frustrated.

Anthony: Like, I don’t know. It’s going to be different for everybody. And so a little bit of. audit is, is going to be required here to get to the bottom of this and to determine who is the worst self of you that, like the worst, worst version of you that needs to be fired. And then do it. Figure out what do I need to do to take the power away from that person and then just focus every day on doing that.

Anthony: I think for me, the worst version of myself that I removed was eating. I just said I’m going to create an environment where I am not ever the one that has to make the decision. I have no power here. I just eat what I’m given when I’m given it, and it’s been, it’s been one of the best things that I’ve ever done.

Anthony: Truly, my energy levels are, are through the roof. I am motivated all the time. I’m clear of mind. I don’t have energy drops throughout the day. [00:10:00] and I’m, I like looking at myself in the mirror, so like, isn’t that the whole point of working out? It’s like, it’s like you like the person that you see. So I hope this brought you guys some value.

Anthony: I truly appreciate you being here. as always, I know that you have other things that you could be doing with your time so that the fact that you took a little bit of it and shared it with me, means a ton to me. So thank you. Thank you. Thank you. If you got value out of this, just do me a favor, just share it on social media, wherever that is, maybe Instagram, tag me in it, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, wherever you guys are.

Anthony: LinkedIn, tag me in it. I’d love to see it and, and, and communicate and, and start a conversation with you guys, and I’ll see you guys tomorrow.
