Sales is a numbers game.
It’s all about getting in front of enough people and pitching your product. But, even if you think your product is the best, there are people out there selling absolute garbage and making millions.
So how do you get in front of more customers? There are different techniques to explore, from organic social media to cold outreach and paid advertising. It’s all about finding what works best for you.
It’s important to remember, most businesses fail because of obscurity, not because of the quality of their product. So don’t be afraid to market yourself and get out there.

Welcome to Amplified Impact. This is the podcast where we talk about how to build better businesses, invest in real estate, and how to hyper focus on the things that matter most so that we can maximize our return on life. I’m your host, Anthony Vasino, and I’ve written a few bestselling books, built a few seven and eight figure businesses, and currently manage a $70 million real estate portfolio. If you’re in business right now and you want to double or triple your revenue, you want to grow the business, the top line, here’s the secret, here’s the hack.
Anthony Vicino:
It is nothing super crazy, it’s nothing revolutionary. It’s just to understand that sales is simply a numbers game. If you want to grow, you need to pitch more people. That’s the game. Like, yes, we can focus on how do we increase the conversions of the people that we’re pitching? So we want to improve our salesmanship. But at the end of the day, one of the things that I keep coming back to, and it blows my mind every time I really stop to think about it, is that there are people out there right now selling absolute garbage. They’re selling millions and millions of dollars of absolute garbage, like undeniable trash. People are buying it because there is a customer out there for everything.
Anthony Vicino:
And so if there are people out there who can sell just trash products and sell millions of dollars of it because they understand, fundamentally, it’s just a matter of getting in front of enough people and eventually somebody will say yes, because there’s always somebody out there who will just say yes to anything. They’ll buy any product. And I’m not saying you want to target them. But just understand if you have a good product and a demographic of people that you can serve with that product that can change their life, can improve it in some meaningful way, then it’s just a matter of getting in front of enough of those people and they will buy it. It will happen. It’s crazy to think I had a friend who back in the early 2000s. So this was like the early days of the Internet, or the commercial Internet, AOL America Online, where people would buy these lists of potential leads and you would pay like, $100 and you’d get this CD of a million email addresses. A million, and they’re just like, randomly scrubbed and bought from these different companies.
Anthony Vicino:
So this is the most random spattering of customers you could ever imagine. And yet he would take that CD of this was like early days before he really understood, like, spam is not good. And selling crap products to masses like that, like not great. However, the lesson here is very interesting which is that he sent out email, an email to a million email addresses, comes back the next day and he sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of product to them. That’s just cold emailing, just that spam. Think about how much spam is in your email at any given moment and you’re wondering probably like who buys this? Who falls for this? Well the reason there’s so much spam is because there are people who will buy it. And so they understand the spammers understand it’s just a numbers game. Get in front of enough people and you will make a sale.
Anthony Vicino:
And I want you to take that same idea, not the spamming idea, but just the idea that if you’re not growing at the rate that you want, it’s probably because you’re not getting in front of enough people and pitching. And so this is where there’s so many different ways you can get in front of people. You can bring leads in. I’m a big fan of organic social media. There’s paid social media ads that’s very powerful. I’ve had really great success with that. There’s referrals, there’s cold outreach, there’s so many different ways you have to figure out what is the way that you are going to lean into to get in front of enough eyeballs that you could then sell to whatever degree that you’re trying to sell, like whatever you’re trying to get your business to. Just understand that there’s different pros and cons of each of those different lead generation techniques.
Anthony Vicino:
Right? I’m a big fan again of organic social media. The problem with that is because I’m not here pitching constantly, I’m putting out valuable content and just kind of farming for relationships and building and nurturing and eventually people will come and they’ll discover that there’s ways that I can work with them or products that they can buy from me and then I’ll make the sale. That is a very long road. Farming for customers is a much better way long term than hunting. But it takes so much longer that most people aren’t willing to do it. So they go to the hunting which is like door to door knocking or cold emailing or cold DMing or paid advertising even. And those can be very effective too. I’m not saying it’s this or that might be a both and but you need to explore what are the ways that you can get in front of more customers so that they can become aware of your product.
Anthony Vicino:
In my experience, most businesses die of obscurity than anything else. Not enough of their ideal customer knew that they were in existence and that they had a product that could serve them. That’s what kills them. It’s a marketing problem in most cases. It’s not a quality of the product, it’s just not enough. People know you exist and so I wanted to share that with you because often we make this out to be much harder than it is. I was talking with a student the other day who had sent off some DMs, some cold emails, was getting really frustrated because he wasn’t getting the feedback that he was looking for. When we really broke into the numbers, it was a mismatch of expectations from reality.
Anthony Vicino:
So he went into it thinking one for every ten DMs, he would be getting somebody to respond to him, and maybe one out of every ten of those, he would maybe make a sale or something, right? So he’s thinking, like, 20 conversations or so, like, he’ll get somebody to come in. So he needed to talk to 100 leads to get to that one sale effectively. And I was like, you know what? You might just need to reframe that. Maybe it’s 1000, maybe it’s actually 10,000 people you need to get in front of. But if you’re setting the bar too low and you’re getting frustrated because you’re not making the sales that you want, it’s probably an output problem. You’re not outputting enough. And getting in front of enough people, there’s no other way to put that. It’s just a quantity thing.
Anthony Vicino:
Reps more reps is probably the solution. So take this, run with it. I hope you thrive and you crush and you maximize your return on life, because that is my big audacious dream for you and for myself. So let’s do that.
