Should You Join A Mastermind

The Amplified Impact Podcast
June 6th, 2023

Today I’m gotta tell you about this amazing trip I took down to Cabo in Mexico last week with my buddy Jamie.

We were invited to speak at a mastermind event organized by my friend Hunter Thompson.

This community of capital raisers he built is something else. These folks are all about teaching real estate investors how to raise more capital for their deals, and they’re really niched down into it.

The mastermind itself was mind-blowing. The people there were not only incredibly successful in their businesses, but their mindset and the way they saw the world was just next level.

As an entrepreneur…you’re probably already asking yourself what it means to live in alignment with your greatness and be the best version of yourself.

But here’s the truth: most people you’ll meet in your life aren’t interested in that…you’re in the minority.

Most people simply don’t think the way you do or want the things you want.

And that’s where the challenge comes in—how do you surround yourself with successful, badass individuals?

Anthony Vicino [00:00:00]:

So last week I was down in Mexico, down in Cabo with Jamie. We were invited out to speak at my friend’s mastermind. Hunter Thompson built this incredible community of capital raisers. He’s very niched down into that particular thing, teaching real estate investors how to raise more capital for their deals. And he was very, very kind to invite us down to speak and share a little bit of our journey. And it was amazing. And while I was down there, I was struck by just how remarkable of a community he’s managed to to build this. This mastermind was absolutely phenomenal.

Anthony Vicino [00:00:42]:

The quality of people there, both in terms of their ability to build successful businesses, but then just their mindset, the way that they looked at the world and they moved through it was incredible. And it makes sense because for him, his product, his masterminds, he actually has 2 tiers. He has, I’ll call him tier 1, which is very expensive. Still, we’re talking tens of thousands of dollars to get into this tier 1 mastermind community group. And then from there he has the elite tier, which is I think only 30 people. And that’s another couple tens of thousands of dollars. So this mastermind that I was speaking to, these people had invested, I don’t know, I wouldn’t be comfortable putting a number on it, but it’d probably be like 50, $60, 000 if I had to guess just to be there. And so the mindset of a person who’s willing to spend that much money on the personal development, on the professional development, to fly to a different country, to spend a couple of days with other people talking real estate, talking about their business, their craft, of course, that person, that mindset, it’s going to be different than the person on the street that you’re going to run into and talk to.

Anthony Vicino [00:01:54]:

And that’s the thing that I want to talk about here is like, how do you get into the room with these high level people who see the world so differently because if you’re an entrepreneur, you’re listening to this podcast, like you are a high performer, you’re a peak performer, you are already wrestling with the questions like what’s it mean to live in alignment with my greatness to become the best version of myself possible. And the truth is, most people that you will meet in your life are not interested in that. They’re just not. They’re interested in a life of complacency and comfort. And they are willing just to, you know, do the minimum to get by so that they can go home, they can rest in their creature comforts on the couch with their Cheetos, watching Netflix and just chill. And, but that’s not enough for you, right? Like you’ve risen for whatever reason to a place like your mindset is such that you are not content with that and so you are listening to a podcast that is all about how to live a life of amplified impact so that you can maximize your return on life. And so you are probably going to struggle because you are by default in the minority of people. Most people do not think this way.

Anthony Vicino [00:02:55]:

Most people do not want the things that you want, or they do. I do actually believe everybody wants what you want, but they’re not willing to take the steps, the actions that would get them to that place. They’re not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to live beyond the apex. So what are you to do in your day to day life as you’re trying to surround yourself with successful people, badasses, because as Jim Rohn says, you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. The big struggle that many early stage entrepreneurs have is like, well, how do I get around these people? I want to be around millionaires so I can become 5 other millionaires so I can be the sixth millionaire. That sounds awesome. But where do I find them? How do I get into into proximity to them? And the truth is, you probably until you’ve built credibility and you have the ability just to reach out to people and off the off the strength of your your network off the strength of your past achievements can get people to take you seriously and open the door and have conversations with you. The truth is you probably have to pay.

Anthony Vicino [00:03:53]:

You probably have to pay to get into proximity with people like me because I’m not going to free events. I’m like free networking events here in the city. Like that’s not a great use of my time. So instead I fly across the country to spend 4 or 5 days with other people who I know and I didn’t pay to be in the group, but like that’s the type of event that I would pay to go to. And the caliber of people there is by default gonna be a lot higher. And because I know they’re paying so much to be there, it’s a less risky investment of my time and energy to go to it. It’s a very risky proposition for me to go to a free event because there’s a very high likelihood that there’s gonna be nobody there that I’m gonna get value from. And like, not saying that in a derogatory way, but like in terms of like business prowess and like experience and like what, you know, being at a place where I can relate to the people there and learn something from them, it’s harder.

Anthony Vicino [00:04:47]:

And so don’t, don’t, please don’t make that out to be like, uh, egotistical or elitist or anything like that. It’s just that, you know, the person who’s trying to build their first 7 figure company is just at a different place than the person who has built multiple 7 and 8 figure businesses and is like playing a different game now. And so I don’t really relate to the people going to those free events. And that’s, that’s totally fine. I used to go to them. I used to go to them. And depending on where you are in your journey, that might be a good place to start, but as you’re starting to progress and you’re trying to get into the room with higher and higher level people, the reality is you probably have to pay to be in those groups, to get access to those high level people. And the reason I wanted to talk about this today is that while I do believe that is the truth, that you need to pay to do that stuff.

Anthony Vicino [00:05:31]:

You also need to be very, very careful because there are a lot of really shitty groups out there that will take your money and the quality of the group is very low, the quality of the leadership is very low, and so you could spend this money and not get any value out of it. And that I do not want for you because I’ve seen it so many times. I’ve seen it so frequently. And if you get into the wrong group initially, it can just completely ruin your experience of masterminds of coaching of communities, like paid communities, and it will make you feel like they’re all a scam, they’re all crap, and so I just, I don’t want that for you. So vet these communities very, very carefully. If you can, try to talk to past students, go to the forums and ask questions of like, is this thing a scam, Are these groups good? Like try and figure out do these students actually have a history of success? And that’s a really, I think that’s a really easy metric to judge the efficacy of a group bond is like, okay, these students come in here, how many stay? How long do they stay? What do they build while they’re there? Do they improve or do a lot of them fall off? And I’ll tell you a lot about the quality of that group. So I’ve been thinking a lot about this because I think what I’m gonna do with the beyond the apex community in the next month or so. Like the way that the beyond the apex, like this is a collective that my goal was to bring together entrepreneurs of different levels, probably more towards the beginner side of it, like trying to build their first 7 figure business or have built a 7 figure and they’re trying to get to 8.

Anthony Vicino [00:07:00]:

So bring together a community of, of, uh, entrepreneurs at that, about that level, or they’re looking to start freelancers, you know, start to like make a side hustle that can like help them along on the path to financial freedom. I wanted to build a community, um, around that, But I think I made a couple of mistakes in in the platform that I chose which was mighty networks I’m not in love with it I think I made some some errors in terms of like I brought in a lot of I made it free For a lot of people to come into And so I think that just generally doesn’t bring as much holistic value to the paid community as it could. And so then the people who paid to be in the community, they get in as a result of having paid for 1 of the premium courses, like the Hyperfocus Masterclass, the capital raising machine, the passive investing made simple masterclass. So, you know, they’ll have paid money to be in that group and now they’re mingling with all the people who maybe didn’t pay to be in there. And so I think what I’m gonna do, I think the way I’m gonna approach this in the next month is we’re actually gonna transition. I’m no longer gonna charge for courses. I think what I’m gonna do is just charge a monthly subscription. And then if you’re in the community, you know you’re paying that money, everybody is there is paying to be in there.

Anthony Vicino [00:08:16]:

So you know that there’s a certain level of qualities of vetting amongst your peers. And then that will just get you unlimited access to all the different courses that I put together. And I have a lot of courses that I wanna put out here in the next month or 2. I got a storytelling course, a decision course, a 4 spheres of influence course, like I got a lot that we’re launching here. And instead of just launching all these things as like one-off products, it’s like, oh, go buy that course, go buy this course. I think I just wanna have a subscription, you get into it and then you stay and try to curate a high quality group for you guys both to mingle with and then also because it’s a higher quality group, then what I’m gonna do is like monthly coaching calls. So you guys can hop on live Zoom calls with me, get questions answered, we’ll deep dive into particular topics. And that way, I just know that the caliber of people who will be hopping on those calls, like the questions that they’ll be asking are higher, you know, higher quality.

Anthony Vicino [00:09:14]:

The things that they’re wrestling with would just generally be more interesting. I really don’t want to do free training calls and then get people who are just at a level that wouldn’t be advantageous to rise, raising the overall experience of everybody in the group. I hope that makes sense. I don’t know if it is. But all that’s to say, this is something that I think we’re gonna roll out in the next month or 2, but I would really love you guys’ feedback on this. Is that actually something that you would find beneficial? If so, leave me a comment, leave a review, shoot me a DM, shoot me an email, anthony at anthonyviceno.com, let me know. Would you be interested in like a subscription based, um, beyond the apex collective, um, community type product. So, I mean, I don’t know if that sentence made at all any sense, But those are some things that I am wrestling with.

Anthony Vicino [00:10:03]:

I hope this brought you a little bit of value. As always guys, thank you so much for being here. I’m looking forward to seeing you back around these parts bright and early tomorrow, but until then, stay hyper-focused my friend.
