Throwback: The Almanack of Naval Ravikant (Book Review)

The Amplified Impact Podcast
May 30th, 2024

Two years ago, I stumbled upon something that completely changed my perspective: a tweetstorm by Naval Ravikant titled “How to Get Rich Without Getting Lucky.” Catchy, right?

But it goes way beyond making money…it’s about finding meaning, happiness, and alignment with who you are.

This tweetstorm led me to “The Almanack of Naval Ravikant” by Eric Jorgenson.

It’s a goldmine of wisdom, compiling Naval’s interviews, podcasts, and tweets.

Whether you’re looking to build a business or seeking personal fulfillment, this book has insights for everyone.

I highly recommend checking it out. It just might change how you approach life and business.

TWEETABLE QUOTE:

“Once you get rich, you’re going to discover it’s not the thing that you were seeking the whole time.”

Episode Transcript:

About two years ago, I read something that in many levels, fundamentally changed how I thought about the world. It opened up different doors of perspective and in a way that really challenged a lot of things that I thought I knew and gave me an avenue for exploring the world around me through a framework that I have found very helpful ever since. The thing that I read was a tweet storm by naval ravicant. It’s called how to get rich without getting lucky. It’s a very clickbaity title, and at the core of it, yes, it’s about how to get rich. But as the last line of this tweet storm points out, once you get rich, you’re going to discover it’s not the thing that you were seeking the whole time. And that really encapsulates the entire tweet storm, because it’s not really about finding financial success as much as it is about exploring the things in life that bring meaning and bring impact and bring happiness. So it’s a very philosophical thing, shrouded, ostensibly in this conversation, about how to make money or how to create a successful business.

And yeah, there is a lot of that. If you just want to go into this tweet storm and read and learn how to build a business, how to think about leverage, or how to think about luck, then this is going to be a great resource for you. But if you want to go in there and learn more about happiness, or how to be a clear thinker, or just how to be more in alignment with who you are, rather than with external expectations, this book is going to be very, very helpful. And the book today that I want to bring in front of you is called the almanac of Naval Ravicant. It is by Eric Jorgensen. And this book is a compilation of different interviews, podcasts, tweets, blog posts that naval has put out over the years. Eric just took it all, put it into one place so it’s easily consumed. It’s in a nice format, it’s very easily read, and it’s just densely packed with wisdom.

I would recommend this book to absolutely everybody. This is maybe in my top five favorite reads in the last year. The book itself is not a story. It’s not a narrative. It’s just a resource with a lot of information. But every page is packed full of new insights and wisdoms and ways of approaching the world. And I’m very grateful for having been exposed to naval because his thinking has had a big impact on my thinking. And I think that’s the highest form of compliment I can give for any person.

Um, I would recommend this ten out of ten. Absolutely. I would not hesitate. You should. If you’re not a reader and you’re, for some reason, watching this video that’s all about book reviews, go and check out Naval’s podcast. It’s just the naval podcast. Go check it out. And it’s a three hour deep dive into that tweet storm, and you’re going to come away with a lot of new informations or pieces of wisdom or, like, ways of thinking about the world.

That’s going to change how you approach life, business, relationships, yourself. And I think it’s going to make you, not make you, but I think it can open the door for you to step through and find a part of yourself that you didn’t even know was there. So that is the almanac of Noval Ravicon. Go check it out.
