Who Will You Be In ONE Year From Today
The Amplified Impact Podcast
May 28th, 2023
From racing rally cars in Austin, Texas with an entrepreneur mastermind to embarking on a couples retreat in Ireland with my life partner Jamie…it’s been a rollercoaster of experiences and deep introspection.
As I sip on Pedialite to recover from a recent stomach virus…I reflect on the recurring theme that has emerged from all these encounters: the importance of goal setting and future casting.
Often, we begin moving without direction, only to find ourselves far from where we truly want to be. So, I want to introduce this mind-blowing concept called “in one year.”
Picture yourself a year from today.
What’s changed? What’s the same? It’s like peeking into the crystal ball of your future self.
But here’s the secret sauce: every decision you make today shapes that future self.
It’s all about the books you read, the habits you rock, the squad you roll with, and the investments you make.
They all add up….like building blocks to your ultimate self. So be intentional.

Anthony Vicino [00:00:00]:
What’s up, everybody? Welcome back to the podcast. This has been an absolutely mindboggling month for me. So a couple weeks ago, I was in Austin, Texas, racing rally cars with this entrepreneur mastermind called Hampton. Tons of fun. Did a lot of had a lot of amazing conversations with fellow entrepreneurs who are absolutely crushing it in life. And a lot of those conversations revolved around, like, where are they building towards and what’s what’s the future hold for them? A lot of, like, introspection. Then from there, I got back and a couple of days later, my life partner Jamie and I, we went out to Ireland for a couple’s retreat. And that was really all about looking back at our past, trying to unpack the baggage that we have from our life, from our relationships, our families before this moment, and then trying to future cast, where are we trying to get to as individuals, but also on our combined mission together.
Anthony Vicino [00:00:49]:
And that was an amazing event. It was very emotionally taxing. A lot of digging into the past and then a lot of trying to just do the heavy lifting of what’s this life that we’re trying to build together look like. Tons of fun. Well, we got back from that just two days ago, and then yesterday I was on my deathbed. I had some kind of stomach virus for, like, 35 hours. So now here I am drinking Pedialite. This is what being an apex predator looks like.
Anthony Vicino [00:01:14]:
We drink Pedialite when we have upset tummies. So that’s where I’m at right now. We’re leaving in a couple of days on Wednesday, so two days from now to go down to Cabo to speak at my friend Hunter Thompson’s Mastermind. And that’s going to be a ton of fun, too. But one of the recurring things that keeps coming up in all of these conversations and all these events that we’re doing this month, it’s around, like, goal setting and future casting. Where are we going? And if you’ve spent any time listening to my content, you guys know I’m a big believer that you should not start down the path on the journey until you have some idea of where you’re trying to get to. It’s like you first start with, what’s my outcome? And then you work backwards from there to figure out what are the steps that I need to take that would lead me towards that destination. And often in life, we just start moving without any clear sense of direction or purpose.
Anthony Vicino [00:02:02]:
And surprisingly, or none surprisingly, we don’t end up where we necessarily want to be. Right? So if you want to end up where you want to be, then you have to kind of plan out your actions to make sure that they’re going to ideally lead you in the intended direction. And so what I want to present to you guys today is this thing that I’ve been thinking about a lot over the last couple of weeks. As I’ve been talking to all these amazing peoples and all these different environments, whether they’re entrepreneurs or w two workers or just investors, there was no commonality necessarily between what people were doing with their lives. And yet everybody was thinking about, like, what’s my future look like? Because everybody wants to have a better future than they have present, and everybody hopes that their present is ideally better than the past. You want to have that sense of progress. And so the idea I’ve been thinking about is something that I call in one year and in one year is just simply like, on this day, in one year from today, what’s my life look like? What am I doing? What’s different? What’s the same? What do I not want to change? And that’s just as important of a question to answer as what do I want to change? Right? Reflecting on what are the things in your life that you’re grateful to have and that you do not want to lose and vice versa. What are those things that you don’t want to have in your life that are currently weighing you down or baggage that you do want to get rid of? And I’ve been thinking about this because I believe that we are the sum of the decisions that we make right now.
Anthony Vicino [00:03:29]:
The books that you read, the actions you take, the habits you execute, the network that you cultivate, the investments that you make, all of those things that you make today are building towards the person you will be in one year from today. So if you want to change who that person is in one year, if they want that person to be different, then you need to be very conscious of the inputs that we’re putting in on the front end. What are you consuming right now? What actions are you taking on a daily basis? What habits are moving you towards that ideal self? And which ones are you currently executing that are maybe pulling you away from who you want to be? Like, getting very clear on what is it today that I’m doing that is leading into my future self from one year from today. So in one year, today, in one year, ask yourself, what are the habits, the routines, the systems, the processes, the content, the people that I need to consume or have around me to lead me to that destination of the goal of whoever it is that you’re trying to become? And for myself, as I’ve been thinking about this, there are some things in my life that I want to change. There are some things that I do not want to change. And it’s just as important, I think, instead of always trying to add things to the equation, but to be cognizant, that you’re not adding things that are then taking you away from the things that you’re currently doing that are in fact helping you. So for instance, you might have financial goals, you might have business goals, you might have health goals. Those are all very important things.
Anthony Vicino [00:05:03]:
But if those are taking you away from your relationships, for instance, if your relationships currently feel strong but you’re weak in all those other areas, well, you don’t necessarily want to be pulling from your relationship capital so that you can invest it into your business or into your health. You want to find that balance so that if your goal is in one year to be strong in business, strong in health, strong in relationships, that you don’t get to that end place and realize, oh, now I’m strong in business and health, but I sacrificed all my relationships, right? So we can build with intentionality towards that future we’re hopefully getting towards and not having to sacrifice the things that we never meant to lose in the first place. So that’s something that I’ve been thinking about. I don’t know if these rambling thoughts had any basis in reality or any kind of helpful direction. Haven’t done a podcast in a while, so it might be a little bit rambly, might be a little wonky, but hopefully we’ll get back into the grief here shortly, guys, but as always, really appreciate you taking a little bit of time out of your day to join me. I’d love to hear about what badass, awesome things that you’re up to. What have you been doing so far this spring or the summer? Anthony Vicino [00:06:14]:
